I have been using the heck out of a great site FranklyMLS for years now in my constant real estate shuffle. It is run by a super agent Frank LLosa who operates in Northern VA mostly. I would use him myself, but I have decided to go without a buyer’s agent this time for multiple reasons. He doesn't know this yet, but whenever I can finally afford unload my former place in Maryland that I currently rent out, Frank’s agency will be my first call.
The only negative about his site is that it only has listings from Virginia, D.C. and Maryland. Other than that it is fantastic. It is for the data hungry. Searches come back with a nice spreadsheet view that you can sort on whatever criteria. Simply roll over the listing to see a picture. The listing pages are simple, no fluff, and fact dense.
The real power of the site comes from the email notifications on favorite listings and search criteria. I had an agent of a home that I saw on Saturday personally email me to let me know her client was dropping the price 10k. 45 minutes later Frankly send me an email with the same information. You do have to of course give them your email address to get alerts, which I usually would dread on a slimy real estate site. However, they have not bothered me in the least to try and upsell me on their services. They just send me the alerts that I want. How refreshing!
Much of the real estate industry has focused on hording information away from buyers and sellers and keeping it confined within their cartel. Frank, goes in the opposite direction and pushes it all out as fast as he can to everyone. He is the type of agent that is going to succeed, and do very well in the future.
Thanks Frank!

I'm enjoying using Fuelly so I thought I would let you all know about it. They have a lot of people entering fuel-up information for similar cars, so you can see how well yours is doing against the competition.
Compared to most Crown Victoria's I'm doing pretty well. However the 10 folks tracking with 2004 model years like me also seem to do well on the MPG, so I am just middle of the pack compared to them. I'd like to see my average MPG go up to 24, and I think it will with some long distance summer trips.

Not that any of us have felt constrained, but I think it is time to change the default width of DTC to, [wider].

Rick Santorum's Anal Sex Problem - Mother Jones
Rick Santorum would very much like to be president. For the past few years, he has been diligently appearing at the sorts of conservative events—the Values Voters Summit, the Conservative Political Action Conference—where aspiring Republican candidates are expected to show up. But before he starts printing "Santorum 2012" bumper stickers, there's one issue the former GOP senator and his strategists need to address. You see, Santorum has what you might call a Google problem. For voters who decide to look him up online, one of the top three search results is usually the site SpreadingSantorum.com, which explains that ....

Barack Obama's Q&A
By Charlie Savage
Globe Staff / December 20, 2007
...
2. In what circumstances, if any, would the president have constitutional authority to bomb Iran without seeking a use-of-force authorization from Congress? (Specifically, what about the strategic bombing of suspected nuclear sites -- a situation that does not involve stopping an IMMINENT threat?)
The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.
As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action.
As for the specific question about bombing suspected nuclear sites, I recently introduced S.J. Res. 23, which states in part that “any offensive military action taken by the United States against Iran must be explicitly authorized by Congress.” The recent NIE tells us that Iran in 2003 halted its effort to design a nuclear weapon. While this does not mean that Iran is no longer a threat to the United States or its allies, it does give us time to conduct aggressive and principled personal diplomacy aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Some bad ass mofo back yard engineers. Wish I could set something like this up.
This page is a diary about our effort to build a steam powered 'backup generator' to charge our batteries. For the most part we have all the power we could ever need from our small 600 Watt solar array and our 20' diameter wind turbine, but on occasion I do need to run a generator and I always figured that a steam engine would be the most fun, plus... I don't need to rely on petroleum - I have lots of wood all around me!

I fixed something that was quite annoying, and I thought I would post it here so that google can add it to earth's meta knowledge.
Could not synchronize record
Details
----
Property update did not succeed.
Error -19752
The client is Outlook 2011 for Mac connecting to an Exchange 2011 sp1 server via EWS. When trying to fix this I noted several others reporting the same error with Entourage 2008 sp2 on EWS (Exchange Web Services) connections as well as Outlook 2011.
I had frequent iterations (several hundred every mail sync attempt) of sync error 19752 in Outlook 2011. This error would specify particular messages by subject as being problematic, however spot checking several of the referenced messages, they appeared to be present with all content. Outlook 2011 would take a great deal of time (and bandwidth) attempting these large syncs with every new message or even states change (marking one message as read). Utilizing this mailbox from OWA or a Windows XP machine with Outlook 2010 via RPC over HTTPS yielded zero problems.
I ran a new to Exchange 2010 SP1 command-let on the mailbox server:
New-MailboxRepairRequest -Mailbox user@domain.com -CorruptionType SearchFolder, AggregateCounts, ProvisionedFolder, FolderView
After this ran successfully the problem has gone away, so I am guessing the problem was due to mail item corruption of some sort.
Of note, possibly related, possibly not, a majority of the mail content in the box was recently imported via Apple Mail. I connected to my previous service via IMAP and dragged and dropped mail items to their new folders in Exchange.

In 2010 it should not be a incredible thing to include support for case sensitive file systems in your application for OS X. Seriously, sic an intern on the problem for half a day and it would be solved!

Here I was unassumingly watching a football game I didn’t really care about, but not wanting to get up because my daughter was asleep on me. Then an ad for Dominos comes on, the first ad of half time. The Tivo helpfully generates a little icon with the ad. In other times it has urged me to hit thumbs up to find out more about the product. Thus far I have resisted the temptation. Today, the Tivo has upped the ante, with it’s technological sultry beckoning of me to simply hit thumbs up to order a pizza.
YES YES YES
I will have my synergy with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and cheese please! .....

This will not be your usual political event! We are especially welcoming the younger voters of the district (and those young at heart) to come out to a show with popular local band Pasadena. Your $10 contribution at the door will include your first drink. We will be rocking out interspersed with the messages of respect for our civil liberties, an end to the war in Iraq, and the prosperity that comes when the government lets you keep more of what you earn. Please come out, enjoy yourself, and ask Richard Matthews the tough questions the he needs to answer to earn your vote in November.

I was grocery shopping yesterday. On clearance they had these boxes of "Wild Animal Crunch" for $1.50. I am a sucker for a deal, and I figured it would make for good content on DTC.
So, I have to say they are pretty tasty. Who knew polar bear flavored grains could be such a tasty part of a balanced breakfast?

Just a quick update to the DTC audience. I won my primary last month and I am officially the Republican nominee for Congress in the Second Congressional District. Jamie and Ben have done some wonderful work on my campaign site. Penn is starting to gussy things up, beginning with my picture. Big thanks go out to those guys for all the work they have done.
www.richardmatthews.org
Something looks funny about it, I can't understand the resemblance, but I know I have seen something that looks like that site before.
I have a Campaign Manager and Treasurer and we are digging in our heals with FEC paperwork and all that goes with it (ugg!)
The next step to take is to achieve $5000 in campaign donations. Once I hit that figure I will be taken a good bit more seriously and have alot more paperwork to fill out (joy!). My Campaign Manager is forcing me to hit up every venue I know of towards this goal, so here I am.
Wont you contribute to furthering the goals of Liberty, Peace and Prosperity? I am a regular guy running, hoping to shake things up a little bit in this state and country. Donate via this link please.

This is a great site with pictures from the knocking down of Memorial Stadium.
What I will never understand is why they couldn't keep the Memorial part of Memorial Stadium up. It looks like they could have if they wanted to.

November the 5th, the Ron Paul Campaign made big news by raising 4.3 million bucks in one day, mostly online. This was the all time record online, and nearly the one day record in US politics over all.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved a bill saying that anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000.
That broad definition would cover individuals, coffee shops, libraries, hotels, and even some government agencies that provide Wi-Fi. It also sweeps in social-networking sites, domain name registrars, Internet service providers, and e-mail service providers such as Hotmail and Gmail, and it may require that the complete contents of the user's account be retained for subsequent police inspection.
Before the House vote, which was a lopsided 409 to 2, Rep. Nick Lampson (D-Texas) held a press conference on Capitol Hill with John Walsh, the host of America's Most Wanted and Ernie Allen, head of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Not one Democrat opposed the SAFE Act. Two Republicans did: Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian-leaning presidential candidate from Texas, and Rep. Paul Broun from Georgia.

A Representative Matthews would have also voted no on this bill. This requires communications companies to monitor your transmissions.

So somewhat timidly I am throwing my hat in to politics it seems. I was disappointed to see no one coming forward to run in my district representing the issues that strongly impassion me. So I have put my money where my mouth is. Ok so it was just a $100 filing fee so far but I feel this is just the start of a very long adventure.
As many of you know I have been an active supporter of Ron Paul's Presidential campaign.
I strongly agree with his stances on:
shrinking the size of the Federal Government
defending of civil liberties
A foreign policy of defending ourselves without unnecessary foreign adventure or entanglements.
My run for Congress focus on these issues. These are important issues for Maryland and our country that are not being adequately addressed by our current leaders.
My Democratic opponent for the Second Congressional District is currently in his third term. I acknowledge that this will be a very large challenge. I feel folks are ready for change in business as usual.

FBI Hoped to Follow Falafel Trail to Iranian Terrorists Here
Wendy and I have been talking about making massive trips to the ATM and going cash for everything we do 'round town as a budgeting tool. When you plunk 6 twenties down in a cashiers hand it seems much more real than signing your name to a credit card receipt. Who knew that there was an ever better reason to do this.
I tend to go to Tiendas now and again to buy mexican coke. I hope I am not on the deportation list should they ever start rounding people up.

I think I have communicated my desire to see Ron Paul as our next President sufficiently to this blog. I have gotten quite involved with the campaign of late, becoming the Organizer for the Anne Arundel County Ron Paul 2008 Meetup group.
I am announcing a fund raising event that I will be running via a crab feast at my home on Saturday October the 20th, 2pm. I am asking $100 minimum donations for the Ron Paul campaign, with a goal of raising $5000.
I think many of you on DTC do not 100% agree with Ron Paul, but at least do find him a refreshing voice against traditional politicians.
See the Meetup Event for more details.

I caught a shark on Sunday durring a fishing cruise out of Ocean City! He was about three feet long and thrown back in the ocean about 12 miles out.
Good times had by all. This was only my third time fishing ever. One of these previous times involves a Snoopy fishing pole apparently.
I received a fishing pole for my birthday. Watch out fishes, a new man is in town, he is a shark catcher so your little ass stands no chance.

OHHHHHHHHH....
See you know, you know.... what I thought, and really I feel silly about it now, but when I read "taken care of" I thought you meant harshly dealt with. I should have read that one more closely.
It is good to have that cleared up. Thanks Mr. President.

Candidate Paul assigns reading to Giuliani
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Longshot Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on Thursday gave front-runner Rudy Giuliani a list of foreign-policy books to back up his contention that attacks by Islamic militants are fueled by the U.S. presence in the Middle East.
"I'm giving Mr. Giuliani a reading assignment," the nine-term Texas congressman said as he stood behind a stack of books that included the report by the commission that examined the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001.
...
A Giuliani campaign official could not confirm whether he had read any of the books on Paul's list.

Had Enough? Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course." Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out! You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies.Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it). The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of America my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for.

The other day I thought it was high time to start encrypting my portable storage. I recently bought a 4GB thumb drive (my first one!) and started syncing my home directory to it. I keep this synced to my desktop home directory also. I use a packaged distribution of cygwin and rsync to do this.
Anyway I started using Truecrypt (Open-Source, free) on my thumb drive and laptop. It is very simple to use. On the thumb drive it was very easy to create autorun launcher that, opens the truecrypt exe, opens your truecrypt data file, prompts your for a password, and then maps it to a predetermined drive letter. All of this with out any software installation on the local machine.
Anyway, it only took me about 30 minutes of non challenging dinking around to get everything in place with truecrypt encrypting the contents. This time was less due to Truecrypt and more due to figuring out how to redirect other programs data storage to my Truecrypt partition and getting my synchronization scripts reworked
Easy to use ubiquitous data encryption is very important with any portable storage medium you may have be it a thumb drive or a laptop.

Wednesday night the president addressed the nation to say that 20,000 more troops are to enter Iraq. Honestly, this is not really big news. We are increasing troops levels for the 5th time since the conflict started. The timing, after an election where it was made pretty clear that the American people would prefer to see troop levels going down, and not up. That is the point of contention here.
Now let me fill you in on the BIG news. Thursday night we invaded the Iranian Consulate in a northern Kurdish area. We arrested five people carried away documents and computer equipment.. The locals (normally relatively friendly to us) were not very happy about this either. Apparently they sounded our troops for two hours.
NY Times Article
Second, as the president announced and was reported previous to his address we are sending a second carrier battle group to the region, specifically aimed at Iran.
NY Post article
Keep your ears peeled for more provocative acts towards Iran. The press sure will not trumpet them loudly. Bush wants to at the minimum have Israel or our own forces attack Iran from the air. He wants to do this in 2007. He is setting up the justifications now.

KeePass is a windows program that is basically a highly encrypted database for keeping credentials. There are recent ports to OSX/Linux and Pocket PC.
Keepass is my killer app. I have been using it for about a year and a half. Let me extol its virtues.
- Open Source
- Small, simple, no install needed, just run
- Pocket PC mini version that you can automatically sync your desktop to
- Fun cryptography/security items such as two factor auth options (password plus key file) and random entropy gathering password generation
- Copy, paste, then clear clip board options with simple commands.

Yesterday I finally got a bit of time to install Madden 2007 for the PC and the XBOX 360 controller (Microsoft made, USB connector, yes there are XP drivers for it).
The XBOX 360 controller is on the box as being compatible with the game. I think to myself great, I’ll pop this disk in, install, download some updates, install drivers for the controller, reboot and I will be playing football in 20 or 30 minutes.
I do all of that and, no sound. WTF mate. Futz around with things, check wires for 20 or 30 minutes. Then I remember that I saw a little blip go by when installing drivers for the XBOX controller regarding a “head set audio device” or some such nonsense. Recalling that there is a little headset port on the bottom of the controller it makes me think. I unplug the game controller reboot and presto sound. Plug controller back in and sound goes away.
So anyway to fix I had to go into device manager and disable the very generically labeled “USB audio device”. Sound is now back piping out of the Sound Blaster. Apparently windows thought that I would of course want my sound piped to me via my game controller, even with no headphones attached. What will I do if I ever want to get one of those head set things, I have no idea.
Thanks windows you are the best. :-)

"The truck driver had stopped to help a lady with a [stalled] vehicle," Mr. Ruefly recalled. "The trailer was half on the shoulder, half in the right lane. Its lights were off. I switched lanes at 55 mph. I never even saw it. The next thing I know, I'm in the back seat of my truck, and the engine is in the front seat."
With his hip shattered and truck destroyed, Mr. Ruefly had to endure one more parting shot from the bridge.
"As the ambulance starts to leave, we get a few feet, then we have to stop again because the drawbridge opened up," he said with a chuckle. "We had to wait almost an half-hour before they could get me to shock trauma. But that's typical of the Wilson Bridge."

I say World War IV because we all knew what World War III was supposed to look like.
What does World War IV look like? Is 2006 ~ 1939?
- Israel is lashing out at Lebanon, conflict very well may get wider by the end of the week. Politicians are dropping the word "war" unabashedly.
- North Korea is pissing off Japan and others. Japan is openly talking about modifying their constitution to allow “offensive” weapons
- Iraq is not going well for us. Fair to say there is now a low intensity civil war going on there
- Afghanistan I hear the Taliban is on a up surge. Didn’t we fix that a few years ago? WTF mate?
- Iran is getting belligerent because it knows it can because the US and Israel are bogged down
I am sure someone somewhere is going to screw over the price of oil as an economic weapon soon.

And the fun continues today from the stolen identity stuff. Today my beautiful bride tells me that wally-mart just turned the both of us down for credit. This is the third merchant in as many weeks to turn us down. We did not apply for these things, someone else did for us. Joy.
Anyway the fraud alert seems to be doing it’s job, as I am notified every time credit is attempted in my name. However each time I get one of these calls I am hopping mad for the rest of the day. Today, just to be sure nothing had gotten through the cracks I figured I should pony up to the “man” ahem, mob, at Equifax and have a look see for myself. This is something I have been doing every 3 to 6 months anyway before all this crap.

The Montana is based on GM's subcompact Corsa car. Its 1.8-liter FlexPower engine generates 112 horsepower at 5,600 revolutions per minute and 174 foot-pounds of torque at 2,800 revolutions per minute. But it's a spunky, stable little thing at high speeds. Its five-speed manual shifter works smoothly. With its barely five-foot-long cargo box, it offers urban utility while minimizing urban parking hassles. The interior is one of the best looking I've seen in any small truck. It averages the U.S. equivalent of 35 miles per gallon on the highway.

I have had to do a bit of research on the topic of assuring delivery of e-mail lately. E-mail as we know it is based on the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).
SMTP was released in August of 1982 to a much younger more naive internet, still called arpanet. The protocol was created to link e-mail in various disparate systems. The goal being that, if you knew an e-mail address then you could just send mail without thinking about how it was to get there. Messages could (and still can for the most part!) be sent using things as simple as telnet without even having an e-mail account.
Here is a link on SMTP commands. http://www.yuki-onna.co.uk/email/smtp.html
If you attempt some of these commands against an e-mail server you will see just how easy it is to send out e-mail as if you were someone else. Some of the guys at the ISP I interned at in 1997 showed me this. I thought it was nothing more then a cool novelty at the time when I received an e-mail from god@god.com telling me to go on a divine quest to buy Steve and Patrick tacos or face damnation.

Innocent Man Mistaken For Registered Offender
From the Washington Post
Basicly this guy was run out of suburbia, and his girlfriend's parents chased him away for what? He once had a roommate that was a sex offender, and he took a nap before picking up his girlfriend for a date.
How many of you have arrived somewhere early and taken a nap in your car before going inside? I know I have done it many times.

I really don't want to get into the whole thing here. However I was filling out some forms to dispute some things and I ran into this gem.
The consumer may send to us a brief statement, not to exceed 100 words (200 words for Maine residents) explaining the nature of your disagreement. Please note that the information that you enter in your consumer statement will appear on your credit report and will be made available to potential creditors. The consumer statement should not be used to dispute credit file information as it may delay the processing of your dispute. In addition, we reserve the right to edit your statement.
Apparently Maine inhabitants are legally allowed to be more verbose. I will put that into my list of things the next time I compare and contrast what state I want to live in.

The white flakey death (SNOW!!!! AHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!) being amongst most of you, I figure you need some reading material.
This is a really long read, but interesting. This essay would pretty much be a diametric opposite view of the future then the one PNAC has. It reminds me of a bad Kevin Costner movie The Postman. Hrm, might put that in the Netflix que.
A decade and a half ago the world went from bipolar to unipolar, because one of the poles fell apart: The S.U. is no more. The other pole - symmetrically named the U.S. - has not fallen apart - yet, but there are ominous rumblings on the horizon. The collapse of the United States seems about as unlikely now as the collapse of the Soviet Union seemed in 1985. The experience of the first collapse may be instructive to those who wish to survive the second.

So I was at the iBar with Penn last night taking about a wide range of topics for a few hours.
One topic of conversation that was brought up was an e-mail I had sent Penn a few days ago.
Basically it was about how I am getting a table at a computer show / hamfest to sell some older unwanted too heavy to ship computer equipment.
Penn - "so what’s with this Computer show BBQ thing you have been trying to get us to go to for the last few years?"
Rich - "what?"
Penn - "remember that e-mail you sent out like two day ago?"
Rich - "yeah, what does that have to do with BBQ?"
Pause
Rich - "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAROTFLOLHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAROTFLOLHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHABBQHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAROTFLOLHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAROTFLOLHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA BBQ"
Pause
Penn - "what is your problem, and what the hell are you laughing about"
Pause
Rich - "Hamfest is referring to Ham radio"
Pause
Penn - "oh"

Thomson Prometric Sucks
I would like to detail the horrible customer service experience that I have had attempting to take Microsoft MCSE exams. I think I have made reasonable efforts to correct this situation and I am extremely frustrated by an obnoxiously anemic bureaucracy at the offices of Thomson-Prometric. This website is a result of that frustration. If you are from Thomson-Prometric and reading this site, my name is Richard Matthews. In addition to my $500 you have my phone number in your database, give me a call.

This is a true story. I swear Im not making any of this up. ....and you may very well see the car and laugh your ass off as well.
So Im a car enthusiast, and part time auto mechjanic who helps the neighbors out with thier cars. Hey, ive got a little knowledge, been doing this for a few years, and Ive got a great set of tools. I have a rather fast and rare early 70s hobby car that i take out on weekends, an oldsmobile 442.
So anyway. My neighbors kid turns 17, and the mother gives him her honda civic.
Say it out loud now with me. Honda civic.
Plastic and aluminum, 75 horsepower, basic commuter car, honda civic.
"perfect for a new driver, economical, easy to maintain and dependable a good basic car for junior," i thought to myself.
The first week was fine, he bought spinning hubcaps and a set of dragon seat covers for it. That should have been it. He should have left it alone.
The week after that, I walk out to my mailbox, and I almost called the cops. I thought I had just seen a UFO. as it slowly approached.....i could see it was a HONDA CIVIC.....with four different blinking colors of neon underneath it. Holy shit. I almost had a fucking siezure looking at this thing. Even the shifter knob was blinking.

$360 donated $140 left to go
I am sickened by the carnage in South Asia. So I have decided it is time to do something to help.
I am putting up a personal challenge to the DTC crowd. I would like to see us raise $500 for relief aid via the Red Cross. Go here and chose International Response Fund to donate.
To backup my personal challenge I will match any donation to the International Response Fund 100% with a donation of my own (up to $500). For extra incentive to provide some urgency I will donate an extra $150 on top of the $500 if we actually hit that goal before the weekend is out. Just post in this thread on this board (or e-mail me rich at tekkiehaus dot com) about your donation and I will take your word for it.

Well my proclivity to get ear infections reared its ugly head again last week. Although this time one could not ask for a better setting for the situation. Sunny Isles Florida, weather sunny 75 – 80 degrees, hotel with several stars next to the front door, and I even had the foresight to bring along my own attending ICU nurse.
I tell you people, I must really love this girl. An ear infection to me feels like someone has broken a pencil in half, jabbed the jaggedy ends in my ears and occasionally twists them around leaving splinters. That is the happy version of the description kids. Anyway, Wendy made this whole experience fairly enjoyable, despite my, and the vicodin deamons', best efforts to the contrary.
My recommendation to anyone that will listen, find a nurse to love. I have. They are the best.

Let us hope that today’s election goes better then four years ago. I seriously think that if we have another mess involving lawyers and/or another branch of government electing our president, that it could cause serious problems with the worlds perception of our stability. That perception of stability is what is holding many card houses up, namely the value of the increasingly over circulated US dollar.
Trivia question that you might know if you had read the book that I am currently recommending ( Financial Reckoning Day):
What country holds about 20% of US currency?

Labor Day weekend is coming up, and to celebrate our country’s lack of pinko-commie May Day we will be having a house party here at Tekkiehaus.
The plan is to kick off with some "family oriented" grilling/BBQ around 2pm - Late evening Sat. 9/4. Then move into a house party with our friends for the later parts of the evening and night. The party for our friends and music will probably start around 8:30 or 9 and run as late into the night as we can reasonably sustain it.
If anyone is interested in spinning at the party let me know and I will try to work you into a time slot (give me an idea of what your plan to spin and how much time you want as well). The current lineup looks like this:
Ben (House and Downtempo) a.k.a. DJ var = null
Neil (House)
Neil + Matt Tag Team Set (House + Oldschoolish Funky, Soulful, Disco type stuff)
Hope to see everyone there. If you think you are going to make it for either portion (or both), drop me a line so I know what to expect.

So what does every good DJ need? Records? Good Headphones? An MC? Nope. What he really needs is a super cool DJ name.
Nomination form is below. Please post.

Is the United States going to hell, western civilization being subverted, knaves scuttling like fetid crabs through the corridors of power and nitwits ravaging the schools in the manner of monkeys in a fruit store? (Yes, actually.) Relish it for the splendid historical theater that it is. A better spectacle there cannot be.
I say this seriously. If you regard yourself as audience rather than participant, the accelerating collapse becomes entertainment. You read each morning’s headlines with zest to see what new and preposterous clownishness erupts from Washington. It is high comedy.

March is a hopeful month; dictators fall, snow melts, things start budding. What have survived the winter, strengthened by the fight, will now prosper during the fortuitous times ahead. Assured of their meritorious place in the balance of things, the majority of gods green earth gets into an amorous frenzy, mightily trying to continue their line.
No longer am I discontent, for spring is here.

This is a good article highlighting the problems with fiscal irresponsibility in Washington. A stat that, while unsupprising, still shocked me:
In 1940, there were 4 million Americans working for the government and 11 million working in manufacturing. Today, there are 7 million more Americans working for the government (21.5 million) than in all manufacturing industries (14.5 million).

Due to my unemployed persons sleep schedule, I was up at 4 a.m. this morning. Craig comes home from his girlfriend's and engages me in a debate regarding the heralds of sleeping for 3 hours before work or just staying up and pulling straight through. It is determined that a continuance of the awake state is the correct course of action. Also resolved during our deliberations was the need to procure sustenance via an open dinning establishment.

Ok I went and looked at the 1.5 Megs of LOG for TODAY at the download.damnthatscool.com site. This site hosts one file Hey Yah Charlie Brown.
I did a little math and it looks like we are getting 8 requests a minute for this 8odd Meg file. Continuing with my math, and therefore probably disastrously wrong, I calculate that the tekkiehaus would need five and a half T-1s to keep up with this demand. Alas, we only have one. I command you, my minions to go forth and find me mirrors. I shall then post something informative on the 403 busy page for all of the poor lost souls that just want to watch a cool little video.

Over the past few days I have been running over and over what, if any, the linguistic genealogy might be of this synonymic quasi palindromeic pairing of words. I am naught for an answer, and it is keeping me in quite a vexed state, precariously wobbling over the edge to insanity.

The Tekkiehaus poker night is getting better and better by the week. Every Thursday night from 8ish to 12ish we are running a poker night here at the haus. Right now we have enough people where we are bordering on staying with one large table or going to two smaller tables. I would like to have enough to go to a second table constantly. Secondly with Novemberfest upcoming on the 22nd we do need assistance draining the keggorator of it’s current contents so that we are well stocked for the main event.
So this is my invite to YOU to become a regular visitor to the haus on Thursday nights. Games are cheap 5 cent ante 25 cent max bet 3 raise limit. Typically people with the worst luck lose no more then $10 - $15. If you don’t know poker, don’t worry I didn’t either till three months ago.

So here State side it is Labor Day. In a fashion similar to our ambivalence towards football (see soccer), we also cannot bring ourselves to celebrate May Day like the rest of the world does. No we have to have our own special version called Labor Day. Does this go back to the Cold War and anti-communistic ideals? So because the Soviets did such a good job celebrating May Day and we knew that we couldn’t beat them at their own party we decided not to come and just throw our own some other day? I think that’s what it is, anyone want to prove me wrong?

I dated a long time friend of mine from high school last winter. Things where going quite well, went to New York in December, did the family Christmas thing, all was good. Then come January things got weird. After a few weeks she told me she wanted to go back to the guy that she had been seeing before me. While of course not flattered nor happy with the situation, she had seen the guy for a year and a half before me and I thought he was an alright guy. I was a model of congeniality regarding the situation. Went on a couple more dates with her, and let it go at that.

Anyhow, you know that lovely new cell phone I got that I saved up for? Yeah, the nice expensive one that I bought because I need a reliable cell phone. Well that doesn't work anymore. "Why?" You ask. "Why ever not?" "I demand an answer, ass."

Where there is a problem a solution must be found.
Problem: most of a keg of beer still at my house. It is a pain in the ass to keep it cold.
Solution: every week day this week I will show another Rocky Movie at 8 or 9 PM. We will make up a stupid key word to drink on. Beer will be gone by the end of the week.
The sooner you come by I.E. tonight the better the movie will be. I will start with Rocky I and go through V.

I think my favorite point of an other wise hellish night was this older guy at the Stil. After about 10 minutes of talking to Adrienne and I, she walked away to fill her curiosity with Guam firemen. Barry and I started talking baseball, and then he made this quote about dren “You know what would be good for that girl? To tie her up and feed her corn flakes until she settles down”

So yesterday we had the cookout. All went well.
Being the neighborly neighbor I am, I personally walked over next door to have a conversation advising of our party pending in a few hours. I gave out a slip of paper with my phone number and asked them to not hesitate to call with any issues they might have.

Cookout this Memorial day at the haus. We will fire up the grill somewhere after 5. The bar will open before that. So stop by, enjoy, be marry. Also you should support my friend Kurt, a brew master in the making. I here are rumors of Kurt using the cookout for his second beer release party.

Strange things are happening here at the haus. Going to take the hint and do a lot of haxoring to make things better then they were before they broke. Please be patient. Will try to have this straight by Monday.

Some of us think it is not ok for people to own guns. Guns shoot people, often mangling them in particularly uncomfortable ways. Others among us think that it is ok for a law abiding person to own a gun for self defense. After all, if guns are not legal only criminals will have them and the criminals would be free to rape and maim us at will. Both sets of people will site endless studies and stories defending their position and its relationship to crime statistics and what not. However, I think these two groups can almost certainly agree on two things: one, a responsible person that is placed into a potentially dangerous situation should be able to carry pepper spray or some other temporarily disabling device to protect themselves, i.e. some form of weapon. (Of course here I am assuming the idea of an inherent right to self defense, which is not universally accepted) Secondly both ideologies can agree that no matter how dangerous the neighborhood we can conclusively say that no civilian should own, or build, any type of nuclear weapon.
And so therefore it can be said that gun control (or put more simply weapon control) argument lies somewhere between these two extremes.

The obsessing of many Americans about race is not only undiminished by decades of improvements in race relations, it seems inversely related to improvements. The better things become, the more vehemently some persons, white and black, insist that progress is, if not chimerical, certainly minimal and fragile.
This column by George Will sums up much of my confusion and opinion about “the question of race in America.”

Looks like I have up and done it. Today I am a member of the US Navy Reserve. I don’t know how much of the world I will see, but I think I am going to know Andrews Air Force Base quite well.
