So I went to pay my MBNA bill today (loan for iPod), and noticed it was due on August 31 (that's today). So, I figured I had better pay the bill online. I went to pay online, and of course, their website is not functioning properly. So, I decide to pay by phone. There was a fucking $15 charge to pay by phone. But, it was better to pay the $15 charge than to get charged a $49 dollar late fee. Does anyone else find these fees to be ridiculous? Also, does anyone else use MBNA? What are your experiences?

Since Ben wouldn't provide me with a username of his choice, it makes it very hard for me to buy him a Somethingawful.com account...Sooo, I'm leaving it up to the masses to decide on what he should use. Granted this name can be funny, demeaning (be nice), or straight out weird and they'll take it.

Over-sized, over-hyped, over-priced, gas guzzling pieces of self-indulging, self-stroking shit. On top of it all, there's a fucking TAX INCENTIVE to buy this shit. It's actually a tax loophole the highly bribed representatives in Congress aren't closing. Oh - same thing goes for over-sized trucks like the F-150 sized trucks.
The farthest off-road most of these vehicles will ever go is when the idiot driving it runs over the flower bed at the end of the driveway. Who's going to take a $50,000 vehicle off-roading?
Old news? Yes
Still pisses me off? YES!

Kind of an interesting concept, but based on the floor plans I've seen it looks like the closets suck and I don't see a place for central air to be installed. It'd be neat to see a fully funcitonal one though.

well, i'm already ready to go to work, and i don't have to leave for another 1/2 hour... what do people DO when they get up early and don't have to go straight to work? this is foreign to me...
anywho, for those of you college kids that are around here somewhere (i know you're here, i can smell cheap beer a mile away, hehe), B&N will give you $10 bucks off on textbooks if you spend $99 or more, and enter the code FLTXBTN.

i never noticed this before, but one of the depeche mode cds i own has an instrumental track called "Pimpf"... which, google tells me, was the title of a magazine for the hitler youth... bizarre
... time passes... ben listens to some psytrance...
i think by the way, that psytrance only has 4 effects... the beat (thump thump thump thump), always the same, sometimes faster or slower... there's static (fzzzzzzzzz) from time to time, there's the sound from pong when you die, and a beep, either slowed down or sped up
it's like mexican food, there's only a few ingredients, so it can taste a little different, but not too much

Okay Boys (and the occasional girl), I've got some upcoming concert information. This morning at 10AM EDT, presale tickets go on sale for the October 9th Beastie Boys show at Madison Square Garden. If anyone needs presale passwords for any of their upcoming shows, just email me and I'd be glad to let you know. Also, check out http://beastieboys.com/ for when they're coming to YOUR area.
In more exciting news (for me at least), Social Distortion is coming out with their new CD finally and going on tour. They're playing in NYC on October 14th and in DC on the 18th. If anyone's interested in seeing them, it'll be a fantastic show. I'm getting my tickets in a few hours.

Here's the story from some paper or another.
To me that seems like more of a big deal than it has been made out to be. It's not getting much coverage in the world press. Apparently two off duty baltimore police officers spotted the guy driving up and down the bridge taping it and informed someone at the toll booth who had the Transportation Authority Police pull him over.
Is stuff like this happening in other parts of the country and we're just not hearing it? I always thought the Bay Bridge would make a handsome target, especially being 5 miles long with bumper to bumper traffic on a saturday.

NPR today has a story about depression, and new ways they're learning about it. While the studies they've talked about mostly centered on children and adolescents, what they've found was that there is a gene that apparently helps the brain protect itself from depressions related to traumatic experiences.

so i wondered why eternal sunshine reminded me so much of being john malkovich... until i looked them both up, and realized that they were both written by charlie kaufman, who, if you're wondering, also did Adaptation (my least favorite of his) and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (my favorite to date).

So I'm _finally_ putting together a new system. Not a total badass setup, but anything's better than the one I have now.
I was about to order all the parts today when I noticed they'd raised the price of the 256MB sticks of RAM I was about to order, and it kind of broke my budget (must.. save.. money), but I found out the single 512MB stick costs less than two of the above, so I'm wondering which is better?
Also, should I play it safe at get two 120GB drives or a single 250GB? I've never had an HD crash on me *knocks on wood* but I'm still slightly paranoid, heh.

Labor Day weekend is coming up, and to celebrate our country’s lack of pinko-commie May Day we will be having a house party here at Tekkiehaus.
The plan is to kick off with some "family oriented" grilling/BBQ around 2pm - Late evening Sat. 9/4. Then move into a house party with our friends for the later parts of the evening and night. The party for our friends and music will probably start around 8:30 or 9 and run as late into the night as we can reasonably sustain it.
If anyone is interested in spinning at the party let me know and I will try to work you into a time slot (give me an idea of what your plan to spin and how much time you want as well). The current lineup looks like this:
Ben (House and Downtempo) a.k.a. DJ var = null
Neil (House)
Neil + Matt Tag Team Set (House + Oldschoolish Funky, Soulful, Disco type stuff)
Hope to see everyone there. If you think you are going to make it for either portion (or both), drop me a line so I know what to expect.

The Fader's cigar store by me here in Catonsville, MD is having a Macanudo Event ... meaning you can get free Macanudo cigars (among other things).
The location is:
Fader's
40 W. Shopping Center
August 12 & 13 (Thursday / Friday)
1 - 7 PM
The shopping center is at the intersection of Rolling Road and Route 40 (west side of the Baltimore beltway). Major landmarks include the Giant / Walmart shopping center across the street and the HUGE Asian market right next door to the Fader's cigar store.
EDIT: Fixed the dates ><

This article got me thinking about the right way to conduct a protest in today's world. The main thrust of the article isn't about protest so much as how free speech is beaing supressed around the country today. It seems we have torn down the leadership of Iraq only to become much more like it.
Anyway, that's beside the point I want to make. The article talks about these stupid "free speech zones" that have been set-up at repubiican and democrat political functions lately. These are a total farce in that they are for free speech at all, they are for dissenters. People who support the particular party in question aren't restricted to these zones.
So then I ask, why protest at a political function at all? The only way to have your protest be meaningful is be on TV. Television has a narrow lens and even if you were protesting right next to your target, the TV might still never show it. I think that the space a protest is held in is somewhat irrelevant. The time at which a protest is held I think is the greater advantage. However, the objective is still to have your protest heard on TV. So maybe if you are protesting a political event (whereever it is in the country) it would be better to protest right in front of all the local TV station buildings in that town? Doesn't that make more sense?

"You're a liberal sissy, you're a right wing nutjob, you're a pinko commie, you're dumb as a doorknob, you got that botox, but I still won three purple hearts. This land will surely vote for me."
Pretty Amusing.

My hubby called me at work today to tell me what he wanted for his bday (next march) and christmas. Apparently, The Wall has been made into a broadway play and Waters is orchestrating it. He says the only place it's playing is in NY. Can anyone confirm this?
Anyone seen it?

So, I was checking out http://www.thesneeze.com today, as it's on my rotation of sites and came across this post. After reading it, I became intrigued and I'm now wanting to give a bidet a "test drive". Has anyone here ever used one of these contrapments?

I went home for lunch and got a phone call. Here's a paraphrased transcript:
Recorded voice: "Hello my name is Sally and I would like for you to participate in a brief survey. If you would like to participate, press 1, if not, press 2"
me: *presses 1*
RV: "John Kerry wants to raise taxes. Do you agree with John Kerry's plan to raise taxes? press 1 for yes, and 2 for no and 3 for undecided."
me: *presses 3*
RV: "Thank you. Will John Kerry's plan to raise taxes make you more likely to vote for, or against him? press 1 if you are against him, press 2 if you are for him, and press 3 if you are undecided"
me: *presses 3*
RV: "Thank you. This message has been paid for by the Committee to Re-elect President George Bush and the Maryland Republican party, Treasurer Blah McBkladityblah. Good bye"

i just heard a cover of "In Your Eyes" that had kind of an older punk bent to it, and i actually really liked it. definitely made me think it would have worked better than the original in Say Anything... anyone else heard it? did you like it?

just thought that those of you who aren't on my IM list (both of you, hehe) might like to know that i'm working at one of my old jobs for a while, until something permanent comes along... this is the one down in kensington, so i'll be in the south area quite a bit for a while... though i have the Discovery Channel interview tomorrow, one with a recruiter on friday and then Bally's corporate after that, and then one at Sienna Corp in Linthicum either monday or tuesday, w00t...
what do you want for your birthday little boy? a job? well, let's see what we can do about it, hehehe

I run across something funny.
Today, I was looking at clearance baby items on Walmart.com and found this useful product.

ok, i guess the time has come... i've thought about it overnight, and decided to ask all of us to please, ignore the trolls. someone else asking didn't do a thing, so i'm going to say it myself. peter's spent many many many hours designing and redesigning the site (he's about to finish version four), and i've spent at least a medium sized fraction of that time coding the site, making it into a site that is here for everyone and anyone's enjoyment. naively (this is my first site after all), i thought that leading by example would cause anyone who came here to act thoughfully, or at least maturely, when the time called for it. apparently that example only extended so far.
